This is a fascinating turn of events when a former Council leader, an elected politician from the Green party goes to work as an officer for the staunchly Conservative county council of Essex. It's a bit like Jeremy Corbyn becoming Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence! More seriously I think this is really brave from both the Council and Jason Kitcat as everyone knows there will be far more scrutiny than normal. It does feel that it might really help bridge the divide between officers and members which should be there in terms of roles and responsibilities but sometimes degenerates  into egotistical posturing and grandstanding and backside covering and buck passing. Good luck to everyone involved.
